Costume Change - Zatanna, What the Hell Are You Wearing?

For some unknown reason in 1996 Zatanna thought this was a good look.
That's an improvement over this? I think not
The JLA Detriot lobster tail head-piece look was the shit!

Doomed again - Doom Patrol 2001

Even Robotman knows this isn't a good idea.
He's been there from the beginning.
Now Cliff is set up with four nobodies.
Fever, Kid Slick, Freak, and Fast Forward. Like I said - nobodies. Never seen again after.

This Doom Patrol lasted 22 issues.
John Arcudi and Tan Eng Huat did their best, but the Doom Patrol is a book that doesn't always work.

First Appearance Friday - Grandson of Clay!

- Claything
Clayface 6, created from the son of Clayface 3 and 4.

Clayface Legacy:

Basil Karlo - Clayface I
Clayface II - Matt Hagen
Clayface III - Preston Payne
Clayface IV - Sondra Fuller
We last saw the Clayfaces as the Mudpack
Basil used the other clays to become ultimate Clayface. He was defeated by Looker from the Outsiders.

Mudpack did have a happy ending. Two clays found love.
And Clayface VI, Cassius, was born.

Cassius has now been captured and experimented on.
The experiment strikes back.
Introducing Clayface VII - Claything, Dr. Peter Malley

Claything is defeated by bonus first appearance Friday - Cameron Chase.
JH Williams III, Cameron Chase's personal artist? He drew her pages in this issue.
Ms. Chase gets her own series shortly after this.
I never read Chase's book so all I know about her I learned from this trading card.

Kelley Jones started on Batman after the Knightfall/Knightquest saga. His horror style looks better this second time around. I can enjoy it in smaller doses.

That's Who? Who'sWho Thursday - Suicide Squad Squared

From WWII to Present (circa 1986)
Bio recaps the Squad's beginnings as seen in Secret Origins #14, and it's rebirth during Legends mini-series.
Guest starring President Ronald Reagan.
WWII to present (updated)
This bio recaps the first one, but now includes details from Suicide Squad #1-8.
As seen in Trial by Fire TP.

The Suicide Squad - Coming to a theater near you. Maybe. We'll see if it can be as engaging and entertaining as the various comic series have been.

Happy Election Day - Suicide Squad style

The gist of this two-part story is pure politics - someone needs to be re-elected, by any means possible.
Unfortunately things don't work out quite as planned.
I don't have part two, so to be continued...

Pre-Crisis Premonition: Superman and His Cousins

Superman holding a dying Supergirl might be one of the most icon comic images ever.
George Perez's amazing art on Crisis and numerous other books will be seen again.

Homages usually come after the original but Gil Kane did it first, pre-Crisis, with an Earth-2 twist.
Power Girl of course isn't dead, and the story itself isn't worth mentioning. It's all about the cover.

Ed McGinnis flipped the characters for this imaginary take.
Not a real comic. It was featured on the tv series Fringe in the "Red Universe"

And we get girl-on-girl from Ed Benes.
I'm not even sure what the story here is. Guess it goes on the re-read list.

My top two are George Perez and Gil Kane. Which is your favorite?

Here's Mud in Your Eye...and Everywhere Else - MudPack vs Batman

The four faces of clay team up to take on the Batman!
Basil Karlo - Clayface I, Matthew Hagen - Clayface II, Preston Payne - Clayface III and Lady Clayface - Sondra Fuller.

Basil has recruited his fellow Clayfaces in a mad scheme of revenge and power!
Revenge against Batman.
But mostly just power for Basil!
Power that is turned against him.
Looker to the Rescue.

Even through all the madness, some are able to find love.
The End.

Norm Breyfolge has to be one of my favorite Batman artists. He has such a distinct style, his art tells the story on its own.
The loss of his parents. The crippling of Barbara Gordon. You can feel the torture and torment Batman must be going through.
