SHIELD - What does it mean to you?

There have been a few SHIELD acronyms, pick your favorite.

SHIELD originally stood for -
Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division.

Until 1991 when it was changed to -
Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Division.

The Marvel Movie Universe has its own version of SHIELD -
Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

Something all three can agree on is a headquarters above all others. Literally.

The Helicarrier
It has crashed more than a few times, so a floating fortress above Manhattan might not be the best idea.

I have always liked the look of the SHIELD uniforms too.
Even they know that "red-shirting" is for expendable personnel. (thanks Star Trek)

Samuel L Jackson is fantastic as Nick Fury, but his comicbook counterpart is pretty bad-ass too.
Uhoh Nick, looks like you've been demoted to field agent. Better start using those LMDs again. I think the colorist should have used the uniform reference guide.

Avengers Membership. It has its privileges.

In the Avengers movie we're getting a pretty good starter line-up with Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and the Hulk.

But take a look at the possibilities.
The original founding Avengers were Thor, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Hulk and the Wasp. They discovered and freed Captain America from his frozen hibernation in ice.
Throughout the years Avengers membership has included almost every hero in the Marvel Universe.

Who would you like to see in a sequel?

Members have full access to the Avengers Mansion.
There is also a monthly monetary stipend. All provided by Tony Stark and Stark Industries.

Who'sWho/What'sWhat - Avengers Edition

Black Widow and Hawkeye might not have gotten their own solo movie debuts, but they are important members of the Avengers.

Black Widow - Natasha Romanova
Equipped with only the skills she developed as a top-secret spy and her Widow's Sting, Black Widow has found along side, and sometimes against, other heroes since her first appearance in Tales of Suspense #52.

Hawkeye - Clint Barton
With archery skills to rival Robin Hood and a quiver full of arrows, Hawkeye has also found himself fighting with and against other heroes since he first appeared in Tales of Suspense #57.
